Delaware paving projects recognized with top honors by DAPA
Allan Myers delivered an impressive performance at the recent Delaware Asphalt Pavement Awards (DAPA), winning three out of the four awards. These awards recognize outstanding quality control and excellence in paving.
“We are winning these awards because of the boots on the ground and the people doing the work,” said Superintendent Tyler Tracy.
DAPA members include hot-mix producers, asphalt cement suppliers, aggregate suppliers, general contractors and paving contractors, and asphalt additive suppliers. They partner with the Delaware Department of Transportation to ensure quality, durable, and innovative roadways throughout the state.
Our crews worked hard to achieve the following awards.
Outstanding Quality Control, Unique Paving Project – Pucheon Run Connector
This high-profile project was a team effort led by Field Managers Ralph “Shorty” Ridgeway, Tyler Brown, Justin Morris, and Joshua Evans. Milling and paving crews from across the footprint worked together for 24 hours each day for one week.
The Puncheon Run Connector is a four-lane divided highway through Dover. Allan Myers partnered with DelDOT to implement a highway detour, effectively eliminating traffic disruptions and phasing as crews paved the entire 2.5-mile connector on both sides.
“We did two to three months of milling and paving in just one week,” said Construction Manager Michael Sturgis. “There was great collaboration between the Dover plant, Maryland and Delaware Construction, Delaware Paving, and Pennsylvania Paving and Transportation.”
The Dover Asphalt Plant supplied the mix around the clock to complete this job on schedule.
“One crew was working during the day and one crew working at night,” said Tyler. “It was a lot of moving pieces working together and the operation never stopped.”
Private Project of the Year
For the second year in a row, the Wilmington Airport, in New Castle, was named the Project of the Year, for the work completed on Runway 9-27.
Three crews repaired 30 feet in the middle of the runway under the leadership of Field Managers Russ Rock and Tyler Brown.
Allan Myers was entrusted with the job thanks to the strong reputation built with previous successful work there.
Asphalt Plant of the Year – Wilmington Asphalt Plant
The Wilmington Asphalt Plant was honored as Delaware’s Best Asphalt Plant. In 2024, the plant produced more than 265,000 tons of hot mix. This honor is awarded to the plant that has the best testing record for DelDOT.
Wilmington is certified in Delaware and three surrounding states with Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
“This was our best year yet,” said Field Manager Charlie Poore. “We have a great crew here and we could not have won this award without all of the hard work and dedication that these guys put into it.”
Charlie has served as the plant manager in Wilmington for 18 years, leading a crew that has been together for over a decade.
Congratulations to all the team members involved in these three award-winning projects!
