Water group expands into Capital Beltway
The Allan Myers water group expanded into the Capital Beltway region in 2024 by establishing an on-call agreement with DC Water. DC Water distributes drinking water and treats wastewater for more than 700,000 residents and 21.3 million annual visitors to the District of Columbia.
This relationship could bring potential work totals to $150-$180 million, with individual jobs ranging from $30-$60 million.
“We are hoping to build up our own water group here by establishing a long-term relationship with DC Water similar to what we have with AQUA and PAW,” said Project Manager Vincent Kong. “We have the right people and resources in the area to respond to any tasks.”
Since expanding, the current water crew has been busy completing two projects. The completed jobs include miscellaneous facility and reservoir upgrades at Old Soldiers Home Golf Course and Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant.
DC Water’s Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is the largest plant of its kind and treats close to 384 million gallons of wastewater a day with the ability to treat more than 1 billion gallons at peak flow.
The latest task order at Blue Plains is replacing 25-year-old piping. Our crews started replacing 3,500 feet of piping in the primary sedimentation tanks in September. This job will wrap up in early 2025.
Allan Myers also started on a $10 million Biosolids project in summer 2024 constructing a reinforced concrete slab and installing PVP panels, or solar panels.
There are a large number of pump stations managing the capital region’s, so the work is not slowing down for DC Water. The water group is hopeful for a long relationship with the utility.
